After-hours Services Standard 3 Service facilities and equipment – Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition)

Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition) AHS3.2: Service equipment and doctor's bag: practitioners have equipment for comprehensive primary care and emergency resuscitation, maintained as manufacturers recommend; the service has one or more height-adjustable beds and timely access to an electrocardiograph and a defibrillator; and each practitioner has access to a fully equipped doctor's bag for visits and emergency care

What does AHS3.2 require?

A practitioner on the road carries the service's capability. Each practitioner has what is needed to deliver broad primary care and to resuscitate in an emergency, at the clinic or in the bag and vehicle, covering diagnostic instruments, PPE, airway and oxygen equipment and emergency medicines. Clinical equipment is serviced, calibrated and checked according to the manufacturer's recommendations with records kept. A clinic has at least one height-adjustable bed. The service can obtain an electrocardiograph and a defibrillator when clinically needed, with staff trained to use them. Every practitioner making visits has access to a doctor's bag stocked to the list in the Standards, with contents checked for completeness and expiry, kept at a suitable temperature and secured against theft.
