Australia OGTR Guidelines for Certification of a PC2 Plant Facility (Version 3.2) B21: Testing biological safety cabinets

What does B21 require?

Every biological safety cabinet of Class I or Class II that is installed and is used in procedures with GMOs must be inspected and tested by a qualified person against the performance requirements in Section 5.2 of AS 2252.1:2010, titled 'Critical for cabinet function' (Class I), or Section 5.2 of AS 2252.2:2010, titled 'Critical performance tests for cabinet function' (Class II). Testing is needed at least every 12 months and again whenever the cabinet is relocated, has mechanical or electrical maintenance done on it, or has its high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters replaced. This sits under the Part B heading for dealings with GM micro-organisms, so it applies in addition to the other conditions when any dealing in the facility involves them.
