Every material, product, form of construction and design used must be fit for its intended purpose, which means it is supported by evidence of suitability and is constructed or installed appropriately (A5G1). The evidence must suit the use it relates to, and any copy of a certificate or report submitted must be complete (A5G2). For the Building Code (Volumes One and Two) the evidence may be any one or a combination of: a current CodeMark Australia or CodeMark Certificate of Conformity; a current Certificate of Accreditation; a current certificate from a certification body stating that the item meets specific BCA requirements; a report from an Accredited Testing Laboratory that shows the item meets specific requirements and sets out the tests and results relied on; a certificate or report from a professional engineer or other appropriately qualified person that states the basis for it and the standards relied on; or other documentary evidence such as a Product Technical Statement that does the same. A calculation method claimed to comply with an ABCB protocol is supported by an engineer's certificate or documentary evidence describing how it complies (A5G3). Where a Deemed-to-Satisfy Provision requires a fire-resistance level, fire hazard property or resistance to the incipient spread of fire, those are determined under Specifications 1 to 3 and the Standard Fire Test with an Accredited Testing Laboratory report (A5G5 to A5G7).
