Part 8.8: Asbestos removal requiring a Class A licence – Australia Model Work Health and Safety Regulations

Australia Model Work Health and Safety Regulations r477: r 477 Removing friable asbestos: enclosure, negative pressure, wet method, monitoring, safe dismantling

A licensed removalist removing friable asbestos ensures so far as reasonably practicable that the area is enclosed, negative pressure is used, the wet method is used, work does not start until a licensed assessor has begun air monitoring, monitoring continues as the independent assessor decides, and glove bags are dismantled and disposed of safely (negative pressure and pre-start monitoring not needed for glove bags); tests enclosures for leaks; does not dismantle the enclosure until monitoring shows below 0.01 fibres per millilitre inside, as reported by the assessor (residential) or commissioning person; dismantles it so as to eliminate fibre release so far as reasonably practicable. The commissioning person obtains a clearance certificate from a licensed assessor after dismantling.
