Part 8.8: Asbestos removal requiring a Class A licence – Australia Model Work Health and Safety Regulations

Australia Model Work Health and Safety Regulations r475-476: rr 475 and 476 Class A work: independent air monitoring, results shared, and action levels

A PCBU commissioning Class A asbestos removal (or the licensed removalist at residential premises) ensures an independent licensed asbestos assessor carries out air monitoring using the membrane filter method immediately before work starts (unless glove bags are used) and during the work, and gives the results to workers, HSRs, PCBUs and others at the workplace (and, at residential premises, the commissioning person, occupier and owner). The licensed removalist, if levels reach 0.01 to 0.02 fibres per millilitre, immediately investigates, controls exposure and stops further release; above 0.02 immediately stops work, notifies the regulator, investigates and controls, and does not resume until levels are below 0.01.
