A PCBU does not carry out, or direct or allow a worker to carry out, work involving asbestos (manufacturing, supplying, transporting, storing, removing, using, installing, handling, treating, disposing of or disturbing asbestos or ACM) except genuine research and analysis; sampling and identification; maintenance of or service work on non-friable asbestos fixed or installed before 31 December 2003; removal or disposal including demolition under the Regulations; transport and disposal under jurisdictional law; demonstrations, education or training; display of artefacts; management of in situ asbestos installed before 31 December 2003; incidental disturbance in mining for other minerals; laundering contaminated clothing; work under a prohibited asbestos notice issued under s 197B of the Act; a regulator-approved method; soil a competent person finds free of visible ACM or friable asbestos; and naturally occurring asbestos managed under a plan.
