Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination
Section 5: When to consult, cooperate and coordinate with other duty holders – Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination

Australia Model Code of Practice: Work Health and Safety Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination 5.1: 5.1 Identify the other duty holders and the Regulations that require specific consultation

The first step is to identify the other duty holders on the same matter. Examples include contractors working at the same time at a workplace; an installer of plant and the person managing or controlling the workplace on when, where and how it is installed; a landlord or managing agent and commercial tenants, for example on emergency plans, or with a maintenance contractor; each business in a supply and logistics chain (consignor, consignee, warehouse operator, trucking company, subcontracted drivers) on timing of collection and delivery; and a franchisor and franchisee on the franchise arrangements and the franchisor's WHS requirements. The Regulations impose specific consultation, for example plant manufacturers with designers, the person authorising energised electrical work with the person managing or controlling the workplace, and the person commissioning construction work with the structure's designer.
