Australia Model Code of Practice: Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Chemicals
Foreword, scope and chapter 1: what an SDS is, who must prepare it and when – Australia Model Code of Practice: Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Chemicals

Australia Model Code of Practice: Preparation of Safety Data Sheets for Hazardous Chemicals 1.5: Classify, label and prepare SDS under GHS 7 from 1 January 2023, update SDS for older GHS 3 labelled stock, and supply the updated SDS with that stock

What does 1.5 require?

Australia moved from the 3rd to the 7th revised edition of the GHS over a two-year transition that ended on 31 December 2022. Since 1 January 2023 a manufacturer or importer may classify, label and write SDS only under GHS 7. Existing GHS 3 labelled stock need not be relabelled or discarded, but its SDS must meet GHS 7 from that date whatever the label shows. Suppliers must supply hazardous chemicals made or imported after 1 January 2023 only with GHS 7 labels, may sell through earlier GHS 3 labelled stock, and must hand over the amended GHS 7 SDS on the first supply of that stock after the SDS changes. Workplaces may keep using older GHS 3 or NOHSC labelled stock they already hold.
