WHS laws do not operate alone: laws on workplace relations, anti-discrimination, privacy, workers compensation, biosecurity, gene technology, public health, therapeutic goods, environmental health and protection, food safety, health, disability and aged care, education and early childhood, personal appearance services, import and export, and building and construction (including ventilation) may also apply, together with national or international standards and accreditation schemes for infection prevention and control, laboratories, cleaning, water and food safety, waste and laundry. In epidemics, authorities may impose mandatory public health orders such as isolation requirements for workers who test positive. The PCBU must comply with all applicable laws and requirements in addition to its WHS duties, and complying with them (for instance food safety law or biosecurity containment) does not mean every health and safety risk to workers has been managed; the WHS duty to eliminate or minimise biological hazard risks remains.
