Where appropriate the PCBU should close off access to potentially contaminated areas, materials and equipment that pose an ongoing risk and have them properly cleaned and disinfected before access resumes; some items that cannot be adequately cleaned, such as children's toys or a computer keyboard, may need disposal, and biological hazards may need clearing from the air by switching on an air purifier, increasing mechanical ventilation or opening windows. Cleaners should wear PPE suited to the exposure risk, such as gloves appropriate to the chemicals used, a mask and safety eyewear; where another PCBU provides the cleaning service it must be made aware of the exposure risk and followed up to confirm appropriate steps are taken. Afterwards PPE is disposed of or cleaned and disinfected according to the manufacturer's instructions and hands are cleaned properly.
