Workers exposed to a biological hazard may need temporary work adjustments to recover and receive treatment, with advice sought where appropriate from the treating medical professional on their capacity for work, and adjustments may also be needed to quarantine an area after an incident while it is cleaned and disinfected. Where reasonable and possible the PCBU supports adjustments such as changes to location, tasks or leave under workplace entitlements to manage the risk to those exposed and prevent further exposure, collaborating with the worker and complying with relevant legislation including the reasonable adjustment provisions of disability discrimination law, and managing any additional WHS hazards the adjustments create. After any exposure the PCBU reviews its controls to confirm it is doing everything reasonably practicable and decides whether changes or additional controls are required.
