Australia Model Code of Practice Managing Noise and Preventing Hearing Loss at Work
Chapter 6 Role of designers, manufacturers, importers, suppliers and installers, and acoustic shock – Australia Model Code of Practice Managing Noise and Preventing Hearing Loss at Work

Australia Model Code of Practice Managing Noise and Preventing Hearing Loss at Work 6.4-INCIDENT: Manage acoustic incidents: the worker removes the headset at once, moves to a break-out area where appropriate, reports the incident and symptoms and discusses continuing work; the PCBU records and logs the event, discusses the worker's ability to continue, refers persistent or severe symptoms to a GP or audiologist, investigates the internal or external cause, checks and removes damaged or faulty equipment, and reviews the noise controls and working environment

What does 6.4-INCIDENT require?

Once an acoustic incident has happened, the worker takes the headset off at once, moves to the break-out area where that is appropriate, tells the supervisor about the incident and any symptoms, and talks through with the supervisor whether they can carry on and whether to move to another workstation. The PCBU makes sure the event is recorded and logged, talks with the worker about continuing work, sends the worker to a GP or audiologist for assessment and treatment where symptoms are severe or persist, looks into where the noise came from and whether the source was inside or outside the system, has the headset and other equipment checked for sound clarity, damage and faults, withdraws anything damaged or faulty from service, and takes a fresh look at whether the noise controls and the working environment are adequate.
