When a customer applies for or renews a home building policy (not strata) the insurer gives access to a periodically reviewed calculator to estimate the sum insured. For products that automatically renew, at purchase and each renewal the insurer reminds the customer of the automatic renewal, that they can opt out, and that they should check the sum insured is still appropriate. On a renewal offer for home building, home contents, combined home, or motor vehicle policies bought directly from the insurer (fleets and business customers excepted) the renewal notice compares this year's premium with last year's and explains how it is calculated. Where the policy has a No Claims Discount the insurer explains how it works. For Consumer Credit Insurance on credit cards, home loans and personal loans the insurer will not sell during the deferred sales period of 4 days starting the day after the customer is told the credit is approved, will give clear information before that period on cost, payment options, duration and key exclusions and limits, will tell the customer that buying the insurance has no bearing on the credit approval, and will make no binding offer until the period ends.
