Section 2 Accreditation: pathways, classes, application, criteria, assessment and appeals – Australia FPA Australia Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme NSW (1 July 2020 edition)

Australia FPA Australia Fire Protection Accreditation Scheme NSW (1 July 2020 edition) 2.4: Classes, categories and levels: accreditation is held in a class (Fire Systems Design or Fire Safety Assessment), a category (sprinkler, hydrant and hose reel, or detection and alarm systems; or specific essential fire safety measures) and, for design, a level from basic to specialist, each with defined scope and restrictions; an individual may hold several, but acts only within the scope of each

What does 2.4 require?

Accreditation is granular. In the Fire Systems Design class the categories are fire sprinkler systems (levels 1 basic to 4 specialist), fire hydrant and hose reel systems (levels 1 to 3) and fire detection and alarm systems (levels 1 to 3), with the system types, configurations and work each level permits set out in Practice Note FSD01; no category covers the design of mechanical ducted smoke control systems except the detection and activation aspects within the detection and alarm category. In the Fire Safety Assessment class an individual is endorsed for the specific essential fire safety measures, some split into levels under Practice Note FSA01, and may assess only those. An applicant may seek or renew accreditation in more than one class or category, meeting the requirements for each.
