Design is deliberate. The curriculum is built on an articulated and consistent educational philosophy and on how clinical practice actually works. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Maori health content runs through the whole curriculum, including its clinical aspects in every discipline, and that strand is evidence-based, framed around strengths rather than deficits, and led and written by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Maori health experts. The provider does research and scholarly work of its own, including on medical education and on the teaching of First Nations health, and that work informs learning, teaching and assessment. Program outcomes, teaching methods and assessments are aligned. Through the curriculum students learn to bring knowledge, skills and professional behaviour together so they can move safely to the next stage, to judge and own their learning as a habit for life, and, within its design and duration, to demonstrate all program outcomes and the AMC graduate outcome statements. Learning outcomes for each stage are set out and communicated to staff and students, and students have opportunities to pursue studies of choice for breadth and variety.
