Its objectives should be identified and justified at the outset; systems that address areas of global concern such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals are encouraged, ideally benefiting all people including future generations. Even a system built for a legitimate internal purpose such as efficiency can have wider effects, and its positive and negative impacts on individual, social and environmental wellbeing, including impacts outside the organisation, should be accounted for throughout the lifecycle.
