ASEAN Guidelines for Occupational Safety and Health
Section 7 annexes and the appended ASEAN Guidelines on Chemical Classification, Labelling and Safety Data Sheet 2009 – ASEAN Guidelines for Occupational Safety and Health

ASEAN Guidelines for Occupational Safety and Health C5: Confidential business information: a chemical name may be replaced by a generic name only in defined cases and must be disclosed on request for worker protection; proportion ranges given where exact composition is confidential

What does C5 require?

Where a chemical name is confidential it may be left off the label or safety data sheet and replaced by its generic name, but only if the chemical is classified as harmful or irritant or falls below the relevant cut-off, and the actual name must be disclosed when a medical practitioner, or a person using or handling the chemical, asks in writing, for use only in protecting worker safety and health. Where the exact amount of an ingredient cannot be given, proportion ranges (very high above 60 percent, high 30 to 60, medium 10 to 30, low under 10) are stated so that the hazards of the formulation remain as clear as possible.
