AS9100D - Aerospace Quality Management System 8.5.2: Identification and traceability

What does 8.5.2 require?

Outputs are identified by suitable means where conformity depends on it. Under 9100, the organization keeps track of the configuration of each product and service so that any gap between the configuration built and the one required can be spotted. The status of outputs against monitoring and measurement requirements is shown at every stage of production and service provision, and where acceptance is recorded by stamps, passwords, electronic signatures or similar media, those media are controlled. Where traceability is required, unique identification is controlled and the supporting records kept; traceability may call for identification throughout the product's life, tracing a batch to where it ended up, tracing a component into its assembly and on into the next higher assembly, and a production history that can be retrieved in sequence.
