Processes suited to the organization and its product are planned, put in place and controlled to stop counterfeit or suspected counterfeit parts from being used or from ending up in products delivered to customers. These processes should take into account: training people to recognise and prevent counterfeits; a programme that watches for parts becoming obsolete; controls ensuring product is bought from the original or an authorized manufacturer, an authorized distributor or another approved source; tracing parts back to the original or authorized manufacturer; methods of verification and testing that can detect counterfeits; watching reports of counterfeits from outside sources; and quarantining and reporting parts that are detected as, or suspected to be, counterfeit.
