Section 7: Emergency response exercises – AS 3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities

AS 3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities 7.3-7.7: Maintain an ongoing exercise program, brief the ECO, debrief and handle a real emergency during a drill

After implementation a program of site-specific exercises including evacuation exercises must be maintained, and every area of the facility must take part in at least one exercise in each 12 months; everyone in the areas involved must take part unless the EPC has given a written exemption in advance. Consideration must be given to briefing the ECO before each exercise (scenario, wardens, alarms, routes, assembly areas, exemptions, temporary hazards and known system failures), an observers' checklist must be prepared for the facility, the ECO and key participants must attend a debrief run by the chief warden straight after the exercise with deficiencies reported to the EPC, which must arrange amendments to the procedures and tell all ECO members, and a pre-agreed word or phrase must be given to all ECO members to signal that a real emergency has occurred during an exercise and that the exercise has ended.
