Six-monthly: check the reel is readily accessible with AS 2441 clearances in any recess or cabinet; check any required location sign and legible operating instructions; check for damage or corrosion; check the cabinet; check the nozzle is held in its interlock; test any swing arm; with the stop valve opened and nozzle shut, run out at least 5 m of hose freely; pressurise and look for leaks in the waterway, glands, nozzle, valve, hose and fittings (fully unwinding is recommended); open and close the nozzle to confirm flow; confirm the service tag is attached; then restore the reel to ready status. Yearly: complete the six-monthly items; check the reel is securely mounted and anchors tight; check any hose guide cannot ride up and jam the hose; check fittings are tight and bearings are not damaged or worn; with valve and nozzle fully open, measure flow at the most disadvantaged reel, at least 0.33 L/s for 19 mm hose and 0.41 L/s for 25 mm hose; check the hose for kinks, damage, wear or collapse; check foam branch pipes and ancillaries; confirm the reel still suits the fire hazard; and confirm building changes have not obstructed access or run-out and that the hose still reaches the hazard as AS 2441 requires.
