APES 110 Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants (including Independence Standards) 350: Custody of client assets

What does 350 require?

A Member in Public Practice must not take custody of client money or of other client assets unless law permits it and then only in compliance with the conditions law imposes. Before taking custody the Member asks where the assets came from and considers legal and regulatory obligations, including anti-money-laundering duties. Assets held are kept separate from personal and firm assets, used only for their intended purpose, accounted for at all times and reported to the client, together with any income or interest, as the applicable rules require. APES 310 Client Monies sets the detailed Australian requirements.
