APES 110 Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants (including Independence Standards) 310: Conflicts of interest for Members in public practice

What does 310 require?

A Member in Public Practice must not let a conflict of interest compromise judgement. Before accepting a client relationship, engagement or business relationship, the Member takes reasonable steps to identify conflicts across the firm and its network, evaluates the threats, and applies safeguards such as separate engagement teams, confidentiality barriers and independent review. Where a conflict is managed, the Member discloses its nature and the safeguards to affected clients and obtains their consent, which may be general or specific depending on the circumstances, and withdraws where consent is refused.
