A Member accepts a responsibility to the public, not only to a client or employer, and must comply with the whole Code. Where law or regulation prevents compliance with a particular provision the Member complies with every other part. A Member who identifies a breach evaluates its significance and its effect on the fundamental principles, takes whatever steps are available to address its consequences without delay, and decides whether it must be reported to the professional body, a regulator or an oversight authority. Breaches of the Independence Standards are dealt with under the specific provisions of Sections 400 and 900 as well.
