Standard precautions are the minimum practices used for all older people in all situations, whether or not infection is known: hand hygiene, aseptic technique, respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, safe use and disposal of sharps, reprocessing of reusable equipment, appropriate PPE, waste management, environmental cleaning and appropriate handling of linen.
