A lessor who receives a family violence termination notice must not ask the tenant, directly or through anyone acting for it, for information beyond what the notice already gives. Information in supporting documents (such as a protection order or competent person declaration) may be used or disclosed only as Australian law authorises or requires, between the lessor, its agent and the agent's staff and the Territory, or to get legal advice. Anyone holding a supporting document must take reasonable steps to store it securely while it is needed under law and otherwise destroy it.
