US SEC Regulation Best Interest (17 CFR 240.15l-1) 17a3-a35: Make a record of the information collected from and given to each retail customer and the responsible associated person

What does 17a3-a35 require?

For every retail customer who receives or will receive a recommendation, the firm must keep a record of all the information it collected from the customer and all the information it provided to the customer under the regulation, together with the identity of each associated natural person responsible for the account. Where the customer neglects, refuses or is unable to supply or update profile information, the firm is excused from obtaining that item, but the record should show the gap.
