United States CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 and FTC CAN-SPAM Rule (16 CFR Part 316) 7704a1: s 7704(a)(1) Do not use materially false or misleading header information

No person may initiate a commercial or transactional email whose header information (routing, from line, originating address, domain or IP address) is materially false or misleading. Header information that is technically accurate is still misleading if the originating address or domain was obtained by false pretences, or if the message is relayed through another computer to disguise its origin; a from line that accurately identifies the initiator is not misleading.
