Paragraph 7.3: Requirements for vehicle types – UNECE WP.29 R155

UNECE WP.29 R155 7.3.4: Protect the type with proportionate mitigations, including relevant Annex 5 Part B and C measures

What does 7.3.4 require?

The manufacturer protects the vehicle type against the risks identified in its risk assessment with proportionate mitigations, which include every Annex 5 Part B and C mitigation relevant to the identified risks; where a listed mitigation is not relevant or not sufficient another appropriate mitigation is implemented. For type approvals of Categories M, N and O first issued before 1 July 2024 and of Category L before 1 July 2029, and their extensions, another appropriate mitigation is also allowed where a listed one is technically not feasible, with the feasibility assessment given to the authority. The Interpretation Document: design decisions must trace to the risk assessment, a negligible risk may need no mitigation, and the reasons for alternative, omitted or unnecessary mitigations must be recorded.
