Every vehicle conforming to an approved type carries, conspicuously and in a readily accessible place specified on the approval form, the international approval mark: a circle around the letter E with the distinguishing number of the approving country (4.1.1) and, to its right, the number 155 followed by R, a dash and the approval number (4.1.2). Where the vehicle is approved under other Regulations in the same country the E symbol need not be repeated and the Regulation and approval numbers are stacked in columns (4.2). The mark is clearly legible and indelible (4.3) and is placed on or close to the manufacturer's vehicle data plate (4.4); Annex 3 gives examples (4.5).
