UK MoD JSP 936 Dependable AI in Defence Part 1: Directive (V1.1, 2024) 122-123: Identify users and their needs, involve them in development and testing including after retraining, and apply human sciences to the design

What does 122-123 require?

The through-life HCD approach identifies the users (operators, maintainers, support staff and people affected) and their characteristics, derives user needs and human factors requirements with acceptance criteria in project documentation, and involves users in developing and testing the solution, including software updates and testing after AI training or retraining. Established human factors principles, suitable methods and data, and the principles of transparency, explainability and interpretability shape the design and user interfaces so users can understand system behaviour.
