Chapter 3: waste, ICT and digital waste, waste costs, hazardous waste and single use items (paragraphs 3.1 to 3.16) – UK HM Treasury Sustainability Reporting Guidance 2026-27 (FReM)

UK HM Treasury Sustainability Reporting Guidance 2026-27 (FReM) 3.ICT: ICT and digital waste mandatory minimum: report the mass in kilograms and the value returned in pounds by destination (reuse through donation within government, to charities, schools or NGOs, or sale; recycling; incineration with and without energy recovery; landfill), combinable with the main waste table where the detail stays visible

What does 3.ICT require?

Digital equipment is everywhere in government estates, and the commitments framework lets bodies report their ICT footprint and waste voluntarily across end-user devices, peripherals, networking and telephony kit, audio-visual devices and imaging devices. The minimum here is firmer: entities shall report the mass in kilograms and the value returned in pounds of ICT and digital waste under each destination, that is reuse (donated within government, given to charities, schools or other non-government organisations, or sold), recycling, incineration with energy recovery, incineration without energy recovery, and landfill. ICT waste may be folded into the main waste table provided the underlying detail stays visible, and context such as a device-type split or value returned may be added.
