UK Companies Act 2006
Parts 1 to 7: Formation, constitution, name, registered office and trading disclosures – UK Companies Act 2006

UK Companies Act 2006 86-88: Registered office at an appropriate address; registered email address; changes notified

What does 86-88 require?

A company must at all times have a registered office that is an appropriate address (one where a document delivered would be expected to come to the attention of a person acting on the company's behalf and where delivery can be recorded), and a registered email address that is appropriate (sections 86 to 88A, as amended by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023). A change of registered office or email address is notified to the registrar and takes effect on registration, with a 14-day transition for documents served at the old office (section 87); the registrar may change the address to a default address where it is not appropriate (sections 1097A to 1097D).
