The Leadership Challenge (Kouzes & Posner)
Practice 1: Model the Way – The Leadership Challenge (Kouzes & Posner)

The Leadership Challenge (Kouzes & Posner) C2.2: Set the example: Teach others to model the values

What does C2.2 require?

Everyone is a role model, so the leader makes sure constituents keep the promises they have agreed to and acts as teacher and coach. Critical incidents are treated as teachable moments whose handling signals what is valued; stories of exemplary behaviour are told because they spread the values more memorably than policies; and systems and processes (key performance measures and rewards; how people are recruited, selected, onboarded and trained; information; and who is retained and promoted) are aligned so that what the organization reinforces is what the shared values call for.
