Singapore Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA, 2019) s40: ss.40 to 42 Prescribed internet intermediaries: restrict inauthentic or bot-controlled accounts under an Account Restriction Direction

What does s40 require?

A prescribed internet intermediary may be directed to stop specified accounts created with it being used to communicate in Singapore, or to interact with its Singapore users, where they spread a falsehood or engaged in coordinated inauthentic behaviour and the Minister determines they are inauthentic or bot-controlled; the direction may be indefinite or up to three months, may require acts abroad, and the intermediary bears the costs. Non-compliance is an offence of up to $1 million plus $100,000 a day, with state of the art and cost weighed.
