A licensee providing a DPT service must meet the prescribed requirements on how far customer assets (including tokens) may be commingled with its own, holding prescribed amounts or proportions of customer and own assets, protecting customer assets if it becomes insolvent, insurance against insolvency, monitoring DPT accounts and customer assets, and standards and processes to protect customer assets and DPT instruments (such as private keys) from unauthorised use. MAS applied the safeguarding regulations from October 2024: customer assets segregated and held in trust for customers, proper books and records, and effective systems and controls. Breach of these requirements can carry fines up to $250,000 plus $25,000 a day.
