Using the industry standards (SICS, topics, metrics, activity metrics, versions) – SASB Standards

SASB Standards USE-1: Use the standard for the primary SICS industry and consider other industries where business is substantial; the entity judges materiality

What does USE-1 require?

An entity decides which industry standard or standards, which disclosure topics and which metrics apply to it. In general it uses the standard for its primary industry under the Sustainable Industry Classification System (77 industries in 11 sectors); where it has substantial business in other SICS industries it refers to and considers the topics and metrics of those standards too. The topics and metrics are those judged likely to be useful to investors, but the materiality judgement and decision rest with the entity. The industry descriptions help identify the applicable standard.
