Psychologists help other practitioners stay healthy and, to keep public trust in the profession, take reasonable steps when they learn that a practitioner's psychological or physical condition is causing impairment that could put the public at risk. Professional behaviour means the psychologist: (a) gives practitioners who are their clients the same quality of service as anyone else; (b) acts, which may mean a voluntary or mandatory notification under the National Law, on knowing or reasonably believing that a practitioner's impaired practice is placing the public at risk of harm; and (c) recognises how stress affects other practitioners, supervisees included, and encourages those affected to seek support from a practitioner (Ahpra's mandatory notifications guidelines set the thresholds).
