PCI PIN Security 31-1: PCI PIN 31-1

What does 31-1 require?

Procedures make sure SCDs that are being retired or sent for repair cannot be intercepted or misused, and that all keys and key material they contain are made irrecoverable before the devices leave, since devices can keep keys in battery-backed memory for weeks and HSMs keep the master file key; the six elements that follow apply.
