Article 5 guarantees every person access to data about themselves, their minor children and persons under their guardianship, and about their property, held in official or private registers of a public character or by entities supplying information on solvency and financial position, and to know the use and purpose made of them. Under Article 8 the data subject or a representative may at any time ask the controller for access, update, rectification, suppression, objection and portability, and may learn the general and specific conditions of processing. The controller must provide simple, prompt, accessible and free means and procedures to exercise these rights; for a deceased person the rights pass to heirs or legatees.
