Material dropped over 20 feet to a point outside the exterior walls of a building must go through an enclosed wooden (or equivalent) chute, meaning a slide closed on every side. Where debris is dropped through floor holes without chutes, the landing area is fully enclosed by barricades at least 42 inches high set back 6 feet or more from the line of the opening above, warning signs about falling material are posted at each level, and removal from the lower area waits until debris handling above stops. Scrap lumber, waste and rubbish are cleared away from the immediate work area while the job proceeds; burning of waste complies with local fire regulations; and oily rags, solvent waste and flammable liquids are held in covered, fire-resistant containers until taken off the site.
