OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926) 1926.151: 1926.151 Fire prevention

Ignition hazards: wiring and electrical equipment used for power, heat or light are installed to Subpart K; internal combustion engine equipment is placed with exhausts well away from combustibles, and exhaust piping run outside a building keeps at least 6 inches from combustible material; smoking is prohibited near operations that are a fire hazard and 'No Smoking or Open Flame' is conspicuously posted; portable battery lighting used with flammable gases or liquids is approved for the hazardous location; and air, inert gas and steam nozzles used to clean or ventilate tanks holding hazardous concentrations of flammable vapors are bonded to the tank shell, with bonds never made or broken in hazardous concentrations. Temporary buildings may not impair any means of exit; inside another building they are noncombustible or have at least 1-hour fire resistance; outside, unless used for flammable liquids, gases, explosives or similar hazardous occupancies, they stand at least 10 feet from other buildings (groups totalling no more than 2,000 square feet count as one building). Open yard storage: combustible piles stable and no higher than 20 feet; driveways at least 15 feet wide, kept clear, spaced to give grid units no larger than 50 by 150 feet; the site kept free of unneeded combustibles with weeds and grass kept down and periodic cleanup; no combustible or flammable storage where underground fire is a danger; solid, orderly piling and no combustibles kept outdoors within 10 feet of any building or structure; portable extinguishers of at least 2A with no more than 100 feet travel. Indoor storage may not obstruct exits; materials are handled with regard to their fire characteristics, incompatible materials are separated by a barrier of at least 1-hour fire resistance, piles are stable and accessible with aisles wide enough for the largest firefighting vehicle, at least 36 inches is kept below sprinkler deflectors, clearance is kept around lights and heaters, 24 inches is kept clear around the path of fire doors unless barricaded, and no material is kept closer than 36 inches to a fire door opening.
