OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible AI (2026) 6: 6 Provide for or co-operate in remediation

Where the enterprise caused or contributed to actual adverse impacts, provide for or co-operate in legitimate remediation that seeks to restore affected people to the situation they would otherwise have been in, proportionate to the impact, through mechanisms where they can raise complaints (Box 2.17: restitution, compensation, rehabilitation, satisfaction, guarantees of non-repetition; direct action, independent algorithmic audits, courts, state-based non-judicial mechanisms such as National Contact Points and non-state grievance mechanisms meeting UNGP 31); for impacts directly linked through business relationships, use leverage to have the relationship provide or co-operate in remediation.
