OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible AI (2026) 3.2: 3.2 Address risks directly linked through business relationships

Based on prioritisation, develop and implement plans to prevent or mitigate impacts directly linked through business relationships, choosing among continued engagement during mitigation, temporary suspension, and disengagement as a last resort planned with stakeholders and in line with competition law (Box 2.15): assign responsibility; support corrective action plans with defined timelines and indicators; use and build leverage through direct engagement, contract terms, business incentives, engagement with regulators and the prospect of disengagement, including after sale by restricting essential services; co-operate with others through industry initiatives; build leverage into contracts, codes and acceptable use policies, focusing on control points (Box 2.14); encourage relationships to engage affected stakeholders; support their management systems; encourage authorities to act; seek confidential transparency arrangements; and disengage only as a last resort.
