Section 2: Application whitelisting technology: threats, types, modes, uses and evaluation – NIST SP 800-167 Guide to Application Whitelisting

NIST SP 800-167 Guide to Application Whitelisting 2.6b: Test any prospective product in monitoring mode, including its reaction to software updates

What does 2.6b require?

Before deployment every candidate technology is tested in monitoring mode so its behaviour is observed, with particular attention to how it reacts when software changes, for example when an update is installed; a product that must be disabled to install operating system or application security updates is treated as unsuitable.
