Chapter 14: Software security – New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM)

New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM) 14.1.11.C.01: 14.1.11.C.01 Separate high-risk servers exposed to public networks

Where high security risk servers are connected to insecure public networks, agencies should: use gateways that are properly designed and configured; consider cross-domain solutions; segment their networks; keep effective functional separation between servers so each can run independently; minimise server-to-server communication, at the network and file system levels as suitable; and restrict system users and programs to the minimum access their duties require.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 2 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • ISM-0385 Functional separation between servers
  • ISM-1479 Minimising server-to-server communications

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
