New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM) 13.5.25.C.01: Treatment of destruction waste by particle size

What does 13.5.25.C.01 require?

Agencies must, as a minimum, store and handle the waste from every destruction method according to the classification in the table in this control, based on the screen aperture the particles can pass through. For TOP SECRET, SECRET and CONFIDENTIAL media or equipment, particles of 3mm or less are treated as UNCLASSIFIED and particles of 6mm or less are treated as RESTRICTED. For RESTRICTED media or equipment, particles of 3mm or less and of 6mm or less are both treated as UNCLASSIFIED. Particle size is measured in any direction and should not be larger than the stated size.
