New Zealand Information Security Manual (NZISM) 13.4.10.C.01: 13.4.10.C.01 Destroy media types that cannot be sanitised

Because the following media types cannot be sanitised effectively, agencies must destroy them before disposal: microfiche; microfilm; optical discs; printer ribbons, together with the surface of impact that faces the platen; programmable ROM (PROM, EPROM and EEPROM); flash memory; solid state or hybrid storage devices for data; memory that is read-only (ROM); and magnetic media that is faulty and could not be sanitised successfully.
