A registration certificate lasts 3 years; the holder applies for renewal no later than 3 months before the expiry date, and the Commissioner issues a new certificate on terms and on payment of the prescribed renewal fee (Rs 1,000, 1,500 or 2,500 by headcount under the Fees Regulations 2020). Acting as controller or processor on a lapsed certificate breaches section 14.
