While carrying out requirements engineering, the project produces these information items: a business requirements specification, a stakeholder requirements specification, a system requirements specification and, when following ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207, a software (or system/software) requirements specification, each containing the content defined in clause 9; several instances of each may be produced (for example an SyRS per system element), and they may carry different titles or sit inside other information items as long as their content can be clearly referenced. The items are looked after through the information management process that ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and 12207 define. Physical documents are not required provided the content is readily reachable and organized in a logical way, for example in a modelling tool's repository under model-driven development.
